Around the nation, high school sports participation is rapidly declining. Here in Louisiana, it's the complete opposite.

It's not a surprise that in Louisiana sports is king. Just here in Shreveport, high school football simply rules Friday nights. While the rest of the country's students are backing away from sports, our state is reversing that trend and our participation is actually on the rise.

This is the first time in over thirty years that high school sports participation has dropped on a national scale.

It also should go without saying that throughout the nation, the sport with the biggest decline in players was football.

The president of the LHSAA claims that this national trend does not represent Louisiana. He says that our state is up to 96,000 student athletes this year, up from 93,000 last year.
