A K-9 officer working with the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Department has recorded his 100th capture. That capture for K-9 officer Duke happened early yesterday morning in a wooded part of the parish.

Duke and his handlers, the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office Chase Team, were called in to assist the Allen Parish Sheriff's Department and Oakdale Police Department in the apprehension of suspects believed to be involved in an ATM theft from an Oakdale bank.

Officers already had two suspects in custody and were searching for a third when Duke joined the pursuit. Duke and his band of human officers tracked that third suspect for more than nine miles through a very heavily wooded area. Their efforts and perseverance eventually brought the suspect to justice.

The capture marked the 100th time that Officer Duke has been involved in bringing in lawbreakers. According to VPSO Duke's Motto is this, "If you run from the police - you'll go to jail tired". Congratulations to Officer Duke and his brothers and sisters in those assisting law enforcement agencies for another job well done.
