Louisiana Man Arrested in Utah Was Allegedly Running from Demons
In a bizarre, 'Hold my beer and watch this,' moment in Utah Monday, a Louisiana man was arrested after allegedly running from demons.
26-year-old Malcolm Vanburen of Louisiana is accused of stealing a car in Brigham City, Utah Monday, December 5, 2022, and soon after crashing into a pole in Logan, Utah. Before crashing, Vanburen was clocked traveling at speeds up to 110 mph. According to his arrest report by Utah Highway Patrol, observers calling 911 reported that Vanburen's vehicle was passing others in the median and emergency lane, running traffic lights, and traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.
According to official documents, law enforcement was able to apprehend Vanburen roughly two blocks from where he crashed after a foot chase. Statements by officers on the scene say Vanburen appeared to be hallucinating when he was taken into custody. The booking affidavit said that “[Vanburen] was making strange statements, seemed to be hallucinating, and thought that demons were out to get him and that they were going to kill him." Vanburen submitted to a drug test which was positive for methamphetamine and amphetamines.
In the end, our stellar representative of the State of Louisiana was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle, failure to stop or respond at the command of the police, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a measurable controlled substance, reckless driving, accident involving property damage, and speeding. As you can tell, they really threw the book at him. All in all, Vanburen was booked into the Cache County Jail on suspicion of two felonies, four misdemeanors, and an infraction.
