Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Scott Crichton is in favor of many parts of the criminal justice reform plan now being implemented across the state.

The changes are designed to reduce the state's prison population by at least 10 percent. By doing this, we could save more than $75 million dollars over the next 10 years. The goal is to redirect much of that money into programs to help rehabilitate criminals.

Governor Edwards appointed a committee to study our problem and said this in April:  "Louisiana incarcerates too many people for too long at too great of an expense. And we are not safer as a result."

We had a lengthy conversation with Judge Crichton about the bills.

NOLA.com did a great report on the three parts of criminal justice reform. You can check that out right here.
