Louisiana’s Most Iconic Adult Beverage is Not a Hand Grenade

You don't have to get wild on Bourbon Street to enjoy Louisiana's most iconic drink. Again, I said you don't have to.

The United States is filled with different people. Different cultures, languages, food and, of course, drinks. It's what makes this country so great. You could even say that each state is its own type of animal.

That certainly can be said about adult beverages.

Recently, BuzzFeed took a look at cocktails, beers, wines, etc. all across the nation to determine which was the most iconic for each state. It was no small task, but someone had to do it. They compiled their findings into a list of "The Most Iconic Drinks from Each US State."

Wow, didn't see that title coming. 

For the state of Louisiana, they say that the most iconic drink is the Sazerac. No, that's not the drink that you see frat boys, bachelorette parties and Mardi Gras attendees drinking on the streets of the Big Easy. That would be a Hand Grenade.

According to Sazerac.com, this drink was created in New Orleans by the owner of an apothecary back in 1838 and may have been the world's first official cocktail. It is made with rye whiskey, absinthe, bitters, a sugar cube and garnished with a lemon peel. Needless to say, this drink is definitely a sipper. Wouldn't want to chug this one down.
