Mahaffey Farms owner Evan McCommon said the idea for the Pineywoods Supper Club was inspired by his visit to the Delta Supper Club in Mississippi.

"When I saw their concept and how it worked, it gave me a game plan to how I could execute a Farm to Table dinner series here," Evan said. "[It's] similar to the Delta Supper Club, but focued on our region, because we have different foods and a different food culture here."

Derek and Holly Schreiber own Sainte Terre in Benton. We've heard Holly is quite the chef, and Derek agrees. The two acually met at culinary school in Manhattan, New York -- he was working in the offices, and she was working events. He told me Holly will be the featured chef at the inaugural event.

"She's kind of developed a menu that will highlight local ingredients, but will do it in a way that, hopefully, is kind of unique from a service standpoint and just from a menu design standpoint," Derek said. "She's doing a number of dishes that have kind of an Asian flair, but using local ingredients. A lot of the ingredients that will be used are from the proteins, and even the vegetables and herbs, right from Mahaffey."

Derek said Holly won't be the only featured chef, though. He said culinary talent, both well-known and not-so-well-known, will be brought in and showcased during future events. The main theme of these dinners is to celebrate local farmers and foodways.

The first Pineywoods Supper Club event is set for Saturday, April 23 at Mahaffey Farms. Tickets are $100 each, plus tax and gratuity, but they come with a five-course dinner, an open bar and live music. You will need to get those tickets in advance, though.

"Anyone can go and buy one of these tickets, but when it's sold out, it's sold out," Evan said. "This is sort of a membership drive. We're going to see how this event goes, and everyone will have an opportunity to join the supper club, pay yearly dues. That will give you the ability to purchase tickets to all the future events."

Club memberships may be purchased beginning April 1, and membership costs $100 per year. According to a Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau news release, the cost of dining events will vary based on menu, location and guest chef. A portion of the proceeds from each event will benefit a scholarship fund dedicated to supporting local farmers, chefs and hospitality professionals-to-be.

The Pineywoods Supper Club plans to host six to eight events per year, and those will be scheduled at a later date. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets for the first event.
