Troopers says a 2000 Ford pick-up truck driven by 81-year-old Percy Melton of Bienville was traveling north on LA 9.  The vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of LA 9 and LA 517 and traveled across LA 517 striking a sign and a tree.  Melton was not wearing a seat belt.  He was transported to Ochsner University Health in Shreveport where he later died due to the severity of his injuries.

Impairment is not a suspected factor in this crash though toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.    This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists that always wearing a seat belt, avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and not driving while impaired can often mean the difference between life and death.

So far this year, State Police Troop G has investigated two fatal crashes resulting in two deaths.
