As Ben Riggs prepares to move on to take on duties with the State Democratic Party, local reporter Marquel Sennet is named as the new Communications Director for the City of Shreveport.

Sennet has been a TV journalist for 13 years. She also serves as Chair of the Southern University Shreveport history department.

Mayor Perkins says

We are excited to welcome Marquel to the team. She is a trusted face whose talent is matched only by her passion for the City of Shreveport.

Sennet comes from NBC 6 and KMSS Fox 33, where she worked as a reporter and news anchor. Sennet says

I am honored to join Mayor Adrian Perkins’ team and work to improve the city I fell in love with 10 years ago. Shreveport is a beautiful city that I am proud to call home, and the citizens can count on me to provide them with accurate and timely information.

Before moving to Shreveport, Sennet was a weekend anchor at the Fox affiliate in her hometown of Beaumont, Texas. She covered the Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill for television stations in our region and provided live coverage statewide for the 2015 Louisiana Gubernatorial Primary Election.

She will take over the duties on February 9. Riggs resigned after two years as Communications Director to assume the same position with the Louisiana Democratic Party.
