McDonald’s Employees in Louisiana Plan Walk Out
McDonald's employees across the country and Louisiana are planning to walk out next week over alleged inaction by managment regarding sexual harassment.
Walk outs are planned during the busy lunch time hours of Tuesday, September 18, 2018 during what organizers say is the first ever multistate state strike specifically about sexual harassment. The strike will take place in New Orleans as well as nine other cities including: Chicago; Durham, North Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; Los Angeles; Miami; Milwaukee; Orlando, Florida; San Francisco and St. Louis.
According to NOLA.com, the strike will affect multiple restaurants in each of the cities, but not all of them. The workers behind the planned strike say they filed complaints with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in May 2018 citing 'pervasive harassment at several franchise restaurants.'
The strike and allegations of inaction regarding complaints of on-the-job sexual harassment are happening during a time that McDonad's is also dealing with employee and union demands for better working conditions and higher wages.
With all that being said, you might want to plan on skipping the 'Golden Arches' next week and pack your own brown bag!
