Memorial Day 2022 is May 30th, and it is approaching fast.  For those of us who've always taken Memorial Day for granted, and used it as just another day off to throw burgers on the grill, here's a little history on Memorial Day, and why we actually recognize this day.

Memorial Day was originally started as Decoration Day following the Civil War and is observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.  Many families will spend time on this day visiting loved ones' cemeteries or memorials.  Memorial Day became an official US federal holiday in 1971.  It's also the unofficial start of summer.  And as such, there are several events around Shreveport Bossier planned for Memorial Day Weekend.

Mudbug Madness is always a fun weekend, and one of my favorite festivals in Shreveport.  It runs May 27th-29th in Festival Plaza and always features live music and entertainment.  This year some of the artists include Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Ole Whiskey Revival, and Shreveport's own Buddy Flett.  There are also contests, great food, and of course delicious crawfish!
