The Milwaukee Brewers just gained some fans in Bossier City.

Last night was the first round of the Major League Baseball entry draft, and the Milwaukee Brewers selected a player very familiar with the Ark-La-Tex. The Brew Crew spent their first round pick, #27 overall, on former Parkway Panther Eric Brown, Jr.

The 5-10 infielder played his college baseball at Coastal Carolina, where he brought home multiple honors. Including the 2022 D1Baseball Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year, 2022 Perfect Game Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year, 2022 Perfect Game Preseason Sun Belt All-Conference, 2021 All-Sun Belt Second Team, and Sun Belt Conference Baseball Player of Week (May 24, 2021).

Over his three year career at Coastal Carolina he hit .306 with 16 home runs and 88 RBIs. He helped get his team into the NCAA Tournament where he tried to push them through the Regionals with multiple hits and RBIs, but they came up short this year.

In high school at Parkway, he had an amazing career. Making All-District teams, and gaining national attention. He was ranked the second-best shortstop and the No. 10 overall prospect in the class of 2019 coming out of Louisiana by Perfect Game. Rated as high as the 85th-best shortstop nationally in the class of 2019 by Perfect Game. Also ranked as the No. 5 shortstop and the No. 16 overall prospect in the state of Louisiana for the class of 2019 by Prep Baseball Report

Now he's on his way into the Brewers system. Which means he could see some playing time locally at some point in the next couple of years.

Right away, it's likely that Brown will be sent to the Arizona league to start, but the Brewers might want to see him at higher competition right away. If that's the case, he can play close to where he played his college baseball, with the Carolina Mudcats. That's the Single-A team for the Brewers.

If the staff in Milwaukee wants to see him with their own eyes, he could head to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Green Bay metro area) for High-A baseball. But if they want to get him in some serious competition, we could get a chance to road trip to some games.

The Brewers Double-A team are the Biloxi Shuckers in Mississippi. A much better drive than Milwaukee. He could also end up at Nashville for Triple-A ball. The Sounds aren't too far away from the Ark-La-Tex either.
