Joe McKnight's death is now considered a murder after new charges were filled this week.

McKnight is a former player at John Curtis (who briefly spent time in the Evangel system) who went onto star at USC before heading into the NFL. McKnight's high school career elevated him to being the #1 recruit in the country, but was never able to live up to the hype at USC. Once he left for the NFL, he became a 4th round draft pick, who ended his NFL career starting only 1 game in 4 years.

During an apparent 'road rage' incident in Terrytown, McKnight was shot and killed in the street. The man responsible will now face more severe charges. The Louisiana Radio Network has the story:

"The man accused of fatally shooting former NFL player Joe McKnight has been indicted for second-degree murder. That’s according to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s office. 54-year-old Ronald Gasser was originally charged with manslaughter, but the D-A’s office says they’ve been able to develop additional evidence regarding the case. Gasser’s bond has been increased to 750-thousand dollars."
