Rain and thunderstorms along the I-10 corridor over the weekend put quite a damper on the Lafayette Regional and the Baton Rouge Regional in the 2016 NCAA  Baseball Tournament. Three Louisiana teams, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns, the LSU Tigers, and the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, were involved and still are involved in the tournament.

Elsewhere around the country where the weather was a bit more cooperative two other Louisiana teams saw their season's come to an end. Louisiana Tech fell to Mississippi State in the Starkville Regional. Tulane fell to Boston College in the Oxford Mississippi Regional at Ole Miss.

In action from last night LSU earned a place in the championship game of the Baton Rouge Regional by defeating Rice by a score of 6-2. The Rice Owls will face Southeastern Louisiana who dropped Utah Valley State by a 3-2 margin yesterday afternoon. The Southeastern versus Rice game will be an elimination contest with the winner getting the honor of playing LSU on their home field.

Meanwhile the University of Louisiana continued their winning ways after downing Princeton and waiting out the rain all day Saturday the Cajuns finally got on the field to face Arizona on Sunday. It was a big day for the Cajun bats as they toppled the Wildcats by a score of 10-3.

Arizona won the elimination game last night at M.L."Tigue" Moore field in Lafayette eliminating Sam Houston State. That sets up a championship game with Louisiana at 1 PM this afternoon.

Since both LSU and the Ragin' Cajuns have yet to be defeated in the regional round of the tournament it will take two losses by each team to knock them out. Should the Cajuns go on to defeat Arizona they will head to Starkville next weekend to face Mississippi State in the Super Regional.

Should LSU win one more game in their regional against the winner of the Rice versus Southeastern Louisiana contest this afternoon.  Their next opponent will be from the Raleigh Regional where they Tigers will take on either North Carolina State or Coastal Carolina. That regional will be decided today.
