Finally, good news for Louisiana!

It seems like every time I write an article about Louisiana, it's generally about something not-so-good. Whether it's fights, teacher's pay, or overall state rankings, Louisiana doesn't seem to get too much good news.

This, though, is something for us to be proud of, albeit a small improvement.

According to 2017 census data, Louisiana was the second-most impoverished state, with 19.7% of Louisianians living in poverty. Last year's census information is in, and it shows a decrease of over a full point, with our poverty rate down to 18.6%.

While that drop doesn't seem dramatic, it is improvement, and I believe we should always be proud of improvement.

Here's to hoping the next batch of census data shows an even larger decrease in our state's poverty rate.
