More big news for Blanchard today. Mayor Jim Galambos tells KEEL News another major player in the retail world is coming to town. The Mayor says a Love's Travel Stop will be opening in Blanchard next year.

The gigantic travel plaza just north of Shreveport will open at the intersection of I-49 and Highway 1. It will be on the northeast corner of that intersection.

Galambos says he's been working with the folks from Love's for about a year. He says this will be a tier 1 truck stop which is their largest. It will employ 55 fulltime people at $15 dollars an hour.

As soon as they finish a project in south Louisiana, the Blanchard store is next on the list for construction. He says they already have all their permits and are ready to go.  He expects the massive truck stop to open sometime in 2022.

Galambos says the Love's people have told him this will be the busiest Love's truck stop in Louisiana. He says this is the busiest intersection they will have and they are also very excited about the Amazon Plant coming to the general area as well. Love's started back in Oklahoma in 1964 by Tom and Judy Love as a country store and it has expanded from there.

Love's now has 400 stores and more than 30,000 employees across the nation.

Galambos says the town will get a 1% sales tax from all goods sold at this new Love's location and he expects that to generate more than $5,000 a month for the city of Blanchard. That money goes directly to the police department. It will be used to hire more officers and purchase new equipment.
