Nicole Kidman Wins Her First Emmy For Outstanding Lead Actress in ‘Big Little Lies’
Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is now Oscar and Emmy winner, Nicole Kidman. *cue Nicole Kidman Oscars clap GIF* The actress took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie for Big Little Lies.
Kidman beat out her Big Little Lies costar Reese Witherspoon, as well as Felicity Huffman for American Crime, Carrie Coon for Fargo, and Feud: Bette and Joan leads Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange.
“We shined a light on domestic abuse,” Kidman said when accepting the award, referring to her character Celeste, a mother trapped in an abusive relationship with her violent husband (Alexander Skarsgard). “By you acknowledging me with his award, it shines a light on [domestic abuse] even more,” she said before thanking the TV Academy.
The series also won big on Sunday night, taking home the award for Outstanding Limited Series, both Laura Dern and Skarsgard for their supporting turns, and Jean-Marc Vallee for Outstanding director.
