As Netflix wades deeper into high-profile talk shows, Norm Macdonald may soon join their ranks. The comedian and former SNL star recently suggested his podcast duties might next extend to a full-fledged Netflix talk series, though negotiations aren’t final just yet.

That’s according to Macdonald himself, who dropped the news during a recent Reddit AMA (h/t Splitsider) in reference to his Norm Macdonald Live podcast. One fan asked why the comedian “seem so embarrassed by [your podcast], or like you hate doing it,” to which Macdonald admitted the show was intended as pretext for a larger vehicle:

I did my podcast in order to see if I could host a talk show. And I think I succeeded and have now been offered a talk show by Netflix. All the podcasts were rehearsals.

EDIT: To be clear, I’m only in negotiations. There’s no show yet.

For what it’s worth, Netflix has not yet settled on any one talk show format. The streaming service shuttered the weekly Chelsea after two seasons, while keeping Bill Nye Saves the World in an all-at-once premiere model. David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction recently premiered in a monthly format, while Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is scheduled to debut new Netflix episodes later this year.

This wouldn’t be Macdonald’s first flirtation with a late-night talk show gig, so stay tuned for further details as his reported Netflix deal closes.
