Paul McCartney admits that his new song "Early Days" is a bit of an answer to critics of The Beatles.

The 71-year-old legend  released his 16th solo studio album 'New' earlier this month and he says that the song contains some defensive lyrics in response to younger generations dismissive attitude toward The Beatles as merely "a boy band".

"It didn't start off that way", says Sir Paul, "It was just this idea of not just me, but anybody who has sort of done something in their past and then the younger generation is saying, 'Well, yeah, it wasn't that good.'"

"Well, I think we were."
