The field could be growing in the race for Mayor of Shreveport. Council Chairman James Flurry says he's "90 percent" sure he'll jump into the race. If he does, he will be the 2nd announced Republican in the race. Caddo Commissioner Jim Taliaferro has already announced he's running. He ran unsuccessfully for Mayor in 2018.

The 70-year-old Flurry has been battling cancer, but says his his "health has improved rapidly. And my age -- I certainly won't hold that against the younger people."

Taliaferro and fellow Commissioner Mario Chavez who is also considering a run for mayor were also in the crowd at the Republican Party luncheon. Taliaferro says he hopes all of the Republican contenders get together ahead of time and decide which one would be the best one to stay in the race. Taliaferro tells KTBS:

We know that we cannot be divided going into this race in 2022. And we're going to do everything we can to send one candidate forward who has the best chance of being the Republican representative for mayor of Shreveport.

KTBS is also reporting former Councilman Tom Arceneaux is considering a run, but he says he won't think about that until next year.

Incumbent Adrian Perkins is the only Democrat in the race so far, but he is expected to draw several Democratic challengers.
