Ronnie Jones Not Reappointed As Head of Gaming Control Board

It would appear that Ronnie Jones' time as head of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board has come to an end. According to a report from WBRZ and the Associate Press, Senators did not approve Jones' reappointment during a closed door executive session.

The Associated Press reached out to Republican Senator Sharon Hewitt, who chairs the committee that holds confirmation meetings, but she refused to comment on the decision. Hewitt told the AP that she can not comment on what took place during the meeting. However, she did note that "if you’re not confirmed by the time we adjourn, you are out of a job."

Jones was appointed to the position by former Governor Bobby Jindal and has stayed in that position under Governor John Bel Edwards. Jones was a long time member of the Louisiana State Police, joining the force in 1974.

According to the AP article, Jones has already cleaned out his New Orleans office. The Governor will have to appoint someone else to the position as an Interim Chair. Then another nominee can be submitted for confirmation during next year's regular legislative session.

We have reached out to Ronnie Jones for comment but have yet to receive a response. We will update this story when we hear from Jones. Roughly 100 appointees were approved by the commission Monday, however Jones and 10 other appointees selected by statewide officials did not receive confirmation.
