Texas has produced a disproportionate amount of talented singers named Selena.  No offense to Selena Gomez, but the most famous in the Lone Star State is none other than Selena Quintanilla Pérez.  She owned the stage, and her fans hearts, in a way very few artists can - and racked up an impressive amount of hits and awards in the process.  All in all, she had an astonishing 86 nominations and took home 67 awards.  That number would have been higher, but her career was cut tragically short in 1995 when she was shot in the back by the manager of her fan club, and later died from her wounds.

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Richardson Rep. Ana-Maria Ramos has filed a bill that would permanently establish April 16th of every year Selena Quintanilla Pérez Day.  The day would be used to honor Selena, her music, and the contributions she made to the advancement of Latinos and Women in America.
