Wednesday morning, two contract workers fell into a 50-foot deep waste cistern near a west Shreveport lift station.  After receiving the emergency call at 10:31 this morning, trusty Shreveport Fire Engine Number 9 was on the scene at 10:35.  Six additional units arrived shortly after in order to rescue the two men who, officials say, fell 20 to 40 feet into the underground tank near the intersection of West 80th and Linwood Avenue where sewage and waste water flow.

In a matter of minutes, the rescue professionals with the SFD had the men out of the hole and on their way to the hospital.  There was no report on the condition of the two  me, but according to the Shreveport Times no Firefighters were injured during the rescue.

The incident is under investigation.
