Investigators with Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Unit have jailed a man accused of raping at least 6 children over a period of more than 20 years.

On October 8, 2021, Shreveport Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit received reports of a sexual assault that is alleged to have happened in the mid 2000’s. The male victim, now an adult reported that 52 year-old Brett Kirkman assaulted him multiple times over a 5-year period.

An investigation was launched and Detectives were able to locate and interview 5 other males that were alleged to have been assaulted by Kirkman.

Arrest warrants were procured for Kirkman, charging him with 6 counts of First-Degree Rape. No bond was set. On November 1, 2021, investigators with the Sex Crime Unit and SPD Warrants Unit took Kirkman into custody at his residence. Search warrants were also executed at that time.

Kirkman was transported to the Shreveport Police Complex and was booked into the Shreveport City Jail following interviews with investigators.

Detectives were able to track Kirkman’s crimes from 1980 through 2010 and they believe that there is a possibility that there are more victims. Detectives are asking anyone with any information to reach out.
