Shreveport Man Shot with Flare Gun

A local man is recovering from serious burns to his upper body after being shot by a flare gun during a domestic dispute.

At around 11:40 a.m. on December 18, Shreveport patrol officers were called to the 2700 block of Wisteria Street. When they arrived, they found out 32-year-old Charles Crittenden had been shot with a flare gun by a family member.

The suspect, 57-year-old John Crittenden, was located inside the home. He'd suffered from a self-inflicted stab wound to his neck. Both Charles and John Crittenden were taken to University Health with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information gathered during the investigation revealed Charles and John got into a verbal argument at their home, when John pulled out a flare gun and shot toward Charles, hitting him in the neck.

John went into his bedroom, where he attempted to commit suicide by slicing his throat with a large fixed-bladed knife.

Once John Crittenden recovers from his wound, he'll be booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of second degree aggravated battery.
