We have lost another beloved spiritual leader to this pandemic. Family members have announced the tragic death of Dr. Rod Masteller, the former pastor of Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport.

He was known by thousands in our community as a friend, mentor, prayer warrior, and so much more. Brother Rod died at 3:45 Sunday morning. He was being treated for Coronavirus at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

The family posted this message:

Rod, Dad, Grandpa, PePaw, Pastor & friend is home and healed. He told me the greatest day in a Christian’s life is the day they go to Heaven to be with Jesus. Today we thank God for peacefully taking him home to be with his parents and many others that are in Heaven because our Dad showed them The Way. We told him how much each of you loved him and that we as his family will carry on his Legacy.

Brother Rod was an exceptional human being. He always put others first and asked how he and his church family could help.

The family sends these words to our community:

Thank you for all your prayers. God heard every single one. He is in control & He is good. Please pray for my mom & all of our family as we prepare to celebrate Dad’s beautiful life while at the same time grieving this unimaginable & unexpected loss.
We say along with our Heavenly Father today, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Well done.
