After lots of trouble in the halls with students over the past few months, a shakeup is coming. Several students have been arrested as a result of fights and other incidents at the school.

Dr. Pendleton was recently put on leave by the district, but no details about that decision was announced. Now, the Superintendent has sent a letter out to the Southwood Community to let them know about the change.

Betty Jordan will be taking over the post on an interim basis while the school district searches for a permanent replacement for Pendleton.

Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree says “We wish Dr. Pendleton all the best and appreciate her service to Caddo Schools. We are also aware that Southwood deserves a proven leader to ensure stability through this time of transition.”

Jordan has worked before at Woodlawn, Booker T. Washington, Bethune, and Broadmoor.

Dr. Goree says he will be seeking input from the staff, parents, students and the Southwood community to find out what kind of leader they want for the southwest Shreveport school.

He says “Please know how much we value the education of your child and seek to ensure Southwood provides access and opportunities for every student to pursue the career of their dreams.”

Because of fights at the school last year, several local fathers got together and created Dads on Duty. A mid September fight in 2021 ended up with 14 arrests and that sparked action by these fathers who began to patrol the halls of the school. They got national attention for their efforts.
