We now know that the Army Corps of Engineers will open the Morganza Spillway early next week, but how will that affect the electricity services for some? Well, Slemco is setting things straight.

Slemco says that contrary to some reports they will NOT be de-energizing neighborhoods on Sunday, when the Morganza Spillway is opened.

Rather, they will cut power to homes and camps as the water rises and as water levels approach electric meter bases,  which could be a dangerous hazard to both life and property.

Slemco says shutting the power off to an entire neighborhood will be their last resort, but if need be they will take precautionary measures to protect life and property.

The power company did note that they will not be allowed to enter areas that flood once the spillway gates are open.

Here's their complete statement.
