State Fair Of Louisiana – BJ Kelley’s Survival Guide
Fall is just around the corner. How can I tell? Because as you drive past the Fairgrounds on I-20, there's action going on. Tents and rides going up, livestock and exhibits going in, and food vendors getting ready to put food on sticks! But you can't just dive into the State Fair of Louisiana... It takes planning. And I'm here to help!

Light Jacket Required
No matter how warm it is right before the State Fair Of Louisiana, it seems like Mother Nature likes to cool things off a bit during the fair. Sure, while the sun is out it may be fine... But once the sun sets, you'll be glad you've got the jacket! Or maybe it's just me... Because I hate being cold!

Wash Your Hands!
OK, maybe I'm a germaphobe! But after touching the animals, tables, money, and holding on while on the rides, I like to have some hand sanitizer. It helps to avoid getting sick after the fair...And keeps you ready to try any new foods you may find!

Show Me The Money
I hate using unknown ATM's. I'm always worried about my debit card getting stolen... Plus, they usually charge a high fee. So, make sure you stop by your credit union or bank ATM and pull out some cash. Admission (Unless you win free tickets from KVKI!), food, rides, food, crafts, food, and food all takes cash. Better to have enough to buy whatever you and the kids want.

My Tummy Doesn't Feel Good
Mmmm, turkey legs, hot beef sundae, funnel cakes, fried twinkies, fried Snickers, and fried butter. I don't know about you, but 'ol BJ Kelley finds all the food delicious. But I have a habit of eating too much grease. I know! I didn't know there was such a thing as too much!!! That's why I'll usually keep some antacids in my pocket. If the tenderloin and fried Coke aren't getting along, put the fire out with some Tums and beer! Then on to the cotton candy!

Patience Is A Virtue!
Lines. Oh how I hate waiting in lines. That's why we have to remember to bring along our patience. Waiting in line to get in the fair, to get food, to buy ride tickets, to get more food... There's a line for everything. But, instead of getting upset, why not strike up a conversation with the people around you? It's a fun way to meet new people, to pass the time, and they may be able to point ya to the deep fried butter!
