Tim Burton has officially begun production on his live-action version of Dumbo, the most depressing Disney movie of all time. (Okay, maybe that’s up for debate, but this movie wrecked me as a child.) We’ve heard rumors about the cast for a while now, from Colin Farrell to Danny DeVito and Michael Keaton, and they’re all true! The casting news, along with some plot details and an official release date was announced today during Disney’s live-action panel at the D23 Expo.

One look at the new poster for Sofia Coppola’s new dark period thriller The Beguiled, and you may think you’re in safe company. That’s certainly what Colin Farrell’s Union soldier thinks when he arrives, wounded, at a Confederate girls’ boarding school. Oh boy, was he wrong.

The 2017 Cannes Film Festival lineup (announced earlier this morning) is stacked with some of our most highly-anticipated titles of the year, including new films from Todd Haynes, Sofia Coppola and Yorgos Lanthimos. The director of The Lobster has returned with The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which reunites him with Colin Farrell — who appears to be playing yet another sad sack for his second outing with the director, and if anyone knows how to make the most of mopey, schlubby Colin Farrell, it’s Lanthimos.

Disney’s live-action Dumbo remake has been officially upgraded from another basic Tim Burton project that elicits little more than a shrug to a full-out curiosity worthy of an eyebrow raise. Between the casting of Eva Green and Danny DeVito, and the almost-casting of Will Smith, and now the potential casting of Colin Farrell, maybe there’s more to this movie than flying elephants — like, is Dumbo sexy now or what?

How do you make a successful Harry Potter prequel without Harry Potter? J.K. Rowling’s new spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, travels back nearly 70 years to 1926 before the events of the first Potter movie to tell a whole new story in a new setting with (almost) all new characters. Reviving the magical universe from the second biggest franchise of all time is a pretty risky move, but Fantastic Beasts does a good job of blending the familiar with the new.

Thursday brought some big news for Harry Potter fans, namely that a five new movies are on the way. During a Global Fan Event for ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,’ J.K. Rowling announced that the Harry Potter prequel spinoff will be followed by four sequels, and that she’s already completed the script for the second film. The event featured a live-streamed panel with the movie’s cast, then afterwards showed the audience an exclusive sneak peek of the new movie.

We’re about a month away from our return to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world — or another corner of it, in another time, anyway. Although the world will feel somewhat familiar to fans of the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is introducing a whole new cast of charming (and not-so-charming) characters that we’ll hopefully come to know and love throughout the trilogy. Don’t call it a comeback. No, really — you may think that ’90s darling Alicia Silverstone hasn’t been doing much acting in recent years, and while that’s partially true, you just haven’t been looking in the right places. The actress appears to be choosing more interesting roles as of late, and after recently appearing in the James Franco festival fave King Cobra, she’s turned her sights to one of our most compelling modern filmmakers: Yorgos Lanthimos.
