Peanut butter has been a staple for frugal food lovers for years, but a looming price increase could make it more of a luxury item before the end of the year. Facing shortages after a dismal peanut harvest, producers have begun implementing steep price hikes, and consumers will start feeling the pinch this week — adding to a general rise in the cost of food throughout 2011.

Wal-Mart is by far the world's most popular and profitable retailer.  While its stockholders may feel the pinch of taking better care of its employees, even its part-time workers, the 1.4M workers who call Wal-Mart their employer just want to be taken care of too.

We’re paying about a nickel less at the pump today than we were a week ago.  AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report says the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Shreveport/Bossier is $3.54.  At this time last Monday, we were paying $3.59.  Statewide, the average this morning is $3.57. Nationally, it’s $3.66.
