It sounds like a scene from an action film. An officer watches a speeding car fly through an intersection, strike a concrete barrier, then go airborne into Lake Pontchartrain.

An 18-year-old teenager lost control of his 2008 Buick Lucerne a little after 7:00pm and ultimately ended up flying into Lake Pontchartranin. Luckily, it was witnessed by a fast-acting Orleans Levee District police officer who saved the boy from the sinking car.

A statement from the OLD said the officer grabbed a flotation device, threw it to the teen in the water, and pulled him to safety.

The teen driver said his brake light came on as he neared the intersection and his brakes didn't work when he attempted to slow down. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries and for further observation.

He was ticketed for careless operation of a vehicle.
