The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Crowns New Royal Ambassadors
Yesterday (Sunday, August 20) I had the honor of hosting the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Coronation at Margaritaville Resort Casino.
As the crazy horse lady on the radio and the creator of Bristol's Babies, I hold the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux in high regard. They're not just a mardi gras krewe, their a cause with a krewe.
The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux works year round to develop, foster and promote programs to benefit all animals and responsible pet ownership through their five programs. Over the last year, they've awarded $17,500 through grants, emergency assistance, rescue donations and their feral cat program.
- Feral Cat Program - KBM has worked with Sheri Lynn's TNR program to spay and neuter over 1,500 feral cats in our area.
- Emergency Assistance - KBM works hard to help folks with the cost of emergency vet expenses
- Low Income Spay and Neuter program - KBM helps to defray the costs of spaying and neutering animals of low income families
- Military Working Dogs - Last year, KBM started a grant to pay for the veterinary expenses for retired military working dogs at Barksdale Air Force Base.
- Rescues - KBM works to help support the many rescues in our area.
The reason why the krewe calls their two legged royals ambassadors is because they feel like their four legged friends are the true royalty. There will be a royalty pet raffle at Rotolo's Pizza on E. 70th in Shreveport January 21st. The annual pet parade will take place Sunday, February 4, 2018.
Pebbles, owned by Susan Keith, was unveiled as this year's grand marshall. Not only will she preside over the parade, you'll be able to see and meet Pebbles at Barkus and Meoux events though out the year.
The newly crowned two legged ambassadors are as follows:
Captain: David Frye
King: Eric Childress
Queen: Daphne Childress
Dukes: Jeff Tarpley, Gary Mackey, Blake Walker
Duchesses: Carol Rochelle, Jean Johnson, Kim Jensen
Prince: Kade Childress
Princess: Reagan Ryan
Congrats to the entire Krewe of Barkus and Meoux! May you have a wonderful and fruitful year taking care of those who can't speak for themselves!
