One of the most dominating basketball teams to ever play professionally have announced they're coming "home".

Today was a great day for basketball-lovers and sport-fanatics in Shreveport-Bossier. The Shreveport Mavericks are coming back to town with their season starting in just a couple of months.

Now, I want you to read the first sentence of this article one more time. You have to understand there is no exaggeration in that sentence. One of the most dominating basketball teams in the history of professional basketball is coming back to Shreveport, and we should certainly be excited.

For those who don't know much about the Mavericks organization, or their time as a franchise in Shreveport, allow me to fill you in.

We'll start this history lesson off in 2008, the team's first season using the Mavericks as their mascot in the historic American Basketball Association. The 2008 season set the tone for the franchise moving forward, where they won 27 out of 29 games. Unfortunately, they lost in the semi-finals that season. In 2009, the Southeast Texas Mavericks won 23 out of 26 games and won the ABA National Championship. They won the championship again the following season winning 23 out of 24 games.

Then, following a two-year absence from the ABA, the Mavericks arrived in Shreveport in 2013. They won 30 out of 30 games in their inaugural season in town, and won the ABA National Championship. Can you guess what they did in their second season in Shreveport? They won 32 out of 32 games and once again captured the ABA National Championship.

These weren't just ordinary wins, either. I can speak from experience after being up close and personal for most Mavericks home games... This team could score 200 points in a game and make it look easy. Trust me, they did it several times. The Mavericks were as dominating in a professional league as the Harlem Globetrotters were in a scripted show.

Unfortunately, following their second year in Shreveport, the team relocated to Kentucky, where they played one season and ceased operations.

Now, in 2021, the Shreveport Mavericks are back, and their regular season is set to begin in April. Not much is known at this time in terms of roster or concrete schedule, or where the team will be playing home games, but I'm sure that information will be made public soon. Legendary head coach Steve Tucker is returning, and he provided one heck of a soundbite during the press conference this afternoon. Speaking to local media, Coach Tucker exclaimed, "Now there's one thing I've never done in Shreveport, and that's lose a basketball game". You can find the full press conference below.

In the meantime, this is cause for celebration for the city of Shreveport. We don't just have another professional team back in town, we have an elite organization with tremendous leadership that's sure to put on a show every single night.

Welcome home, Shreveport Mavericks!
