The Polar Vortex Might Have Killed 95% of Stink Bugs

Researchers are giving us some good news today. The dreaded stink bug, also known as the brown marmorated stink bug, from the Pentatomidae family of invasive insects, could have been virtuually frozen out during the super cold January temperatures.

According to the National Pest Management Association, 95% of the bugs could possibly have been killed during the Polar Vortex this winter. Whaaaat? This is awesome news! But not necessarily for Louisiana. A Viginia Tech Research experiment says the bugs that were killed were most likely from midwestern and northeastern states. Well, that's not letting us totally off the hook, but I guess we'll see when weather gets warmer.

NPMA also says that if eggs were laid by the bugs before the freeze, they still have a chance of hatching when temps heat up. Bummer. Read more about this amazing development from WLWT. Stink bugs be gone!
