The Saints Won’t Have Many Running Backs Sunday

The New Orleans Saints have a tough situation in their backfield this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But, it's their own fault.

The Saints will have just two running backs on the roster for Sunday’s game season opener against Tampa Bay.

Saints Coach Sean Payton admits they’ve never had just two running backs on the roster for a game, and it will not be an easy thing to manage. Alvin Kamara is expected to get a bunch of touches, while recently signed Mike Gillislee will be asked to get yards on rushes between the tackles.

The team does have a third running back in Mark Ingram, but he's suspended for the first 4 games of the year. But that isn't a sudden shock for the team, they knew about this months ago, so they had time to plan. Which they did in the NFL Draft, and for much of the preseason. The team drafted Baton Rouge native, and former Louisiana Tech star Boston Scott this year, who was impressive throughout the preseason. But earlier this week, the team cut Scott in favor of backup offensive lineman Michael Ola.

Kick-off on Sunday is at noon.
