Urgent! Traffic Issues Start Monday In Downtown Shreveport
If you close your eyes and just listen for a minute, you can almost hear the theme music from Jaws playing in the background.
Now, in my best announcer voice, "Just when you thought it was safe to take a drive in Shreveport-Bossier, we get word of another construction project."
What Is Going On This Time?
Amidst all the latest detours due to construction projects in the Shreveport-Bossier area, and let's not forget the scheduled work on LA 157 in downtown Haughton that begins next Friday, July 15, at the railroad tracks, we get word that those leaving the downtown Shreveport area will be inconvenienced for a few days.
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, beginning Monday, July 11, the LA 1 (Market Street) southbound to I-20 westbound entrance ramp in downtown Shreveport will be closed.
Thankfully They Aren't Doing The Work In Heavy Traffic Hours
There is good news, if such a thing exists, but the DOTD advises that the closure will only be in effect nightly from 9:00 pm until 5:00 am but the work will run, weather permitting, from Monday (July 11) through next Friday, July 15th.
Just a guess on my part, but using these hours should only inconvenience those who might work overnights in downtown Shreveport or those who frequent the casinos late at night.
What Are They Working On?
This closure is necessary to allow the contractor to install the foundation for an overhead sign as part of an ongoing project to replace signage along I-20.
This will be a total ramp closure during the hours above and all vehicles will need to detour. Signage directing motorists to the detour routes will be in place.
DOTD does ask for your patience and reminds you to exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
