Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said the US is considering a ban on the popular app TikTok and other Chinese social media apps.

Why is the US considering a ban on TikTok? In an interview yesterday (07/06/20) with Fox News, Pompeo says the ban is being considered as an effort to keep private information out of the "hands of the Chinese Communist Party" according to KATC.com.

The widely popular TikTok app is owned by Beijing company ByteDance. The company reportedly operates outside of the Chinese government and therefore is not subject to Chinese law.

Because of this, the US is considering the ban on TikTok.

According to KATC.com, TikTok said yesterday it would no longer operate the app in Hong Kong.
