Bossier City will be conducting a chlorine flush of its water distribution system after a brain eating amoeba scare earlier this month. The flush was originally scheduled for next year but the city decided to move up the procedure as a precaution after a brain eating amoeba was found in water at the Sligo Water Plant in water purchased from the city.

The City says they have found no evidence of the presence Naegleria fowleri in their water system. However, with the parasite showing up in the Parish, officials decided to conduct the routine system cleanse earlier than originally scheduled.

The system flush is scheduled to being on Monday October 15th and is expected to last 60 days. The city says water will be safe to drink and use through out the process. However, those with serious medical conditions or those who use tap water for kidney dialysis at home should consult their doctor before using the water.
