The prices your favorite restaurant is paying for every single item they serve are skyrocketing. And what's even sadder is that to stay in business they have to pass those increased costs on to you.
It's undeniable. Transportation costs affect business owners in many ways, especially those running a restaurant. Every meal comes with hidden costs that add up quickly. Food wholesalers raise their prices as the cost of transporting goods increases. The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Louisiana is well over $4 a gallon. And the price of diesel is now above $5. And these radical and rapid increases in the cost of fuel will drastically affect the cost of delivered goods, in this case, food.
Shreveport and Bossier Restaurants are In a Really Tough Spot
So, what does this mean for your favorite dining spot? First, budgets start to get thin, consumers tend to cut back on is eating out. More and more they stay home and stretch what food they already have.
And unfortunately, this affects your favorite restaurants. As the cost of delivery and goods increases, restaurant owners find themselves in a difficult spot. They have to increase the prices on the menu. But, as menu prices increase, numbers drop.
"We're between a rock and a hard place," says one Shreveport restauranteur, "Costs go up, prices go up. And then the number of customers goes down. It's a no win"
