On tonight’s (May 17) results episode of ‘American Idol‘, which determined the Top 2 for Season 11, Joshua Ledet was eliminated and sent home. It’s the end of the road for Ledet on ‘Idol,’ but don’t fret for him. He will likely be scooped up to an Interscope record deal courtesy of show mentor Jimmy Iovine as soon as he gets backstage and has a second to breathe.

Much like Adam Lambert, who performed on tonight’s episode and placed second during his season, this is not the last we will hear from JL.

Ledet was certainly a consistent judge’s favorite, grabbing standing Os with great frequency, as well as being an audience fave. He was a PopCrush fave, too, for the way he would rip off his jackets while performing. It was a charming move.

For his ‘Idol’ stage swan song, he sang ‘It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,’ reminding us why he made it to the Top 3 of Season 11 in the first place.

With Joshua Ledet eliminated, that means Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips will go head-to-head and voice- to-voice on next week’s two-episode finale, which takes place on Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23, respectively.

It’s going to be quite the battle between those two, since she’s the powerhouse diva and he’s the outstanding artist that pretty much owns the female vote. It’ll be interesting, that’s for sure.

Lisa Marie Presley is music royalty, being the daughter of the King, Elvis Presley, after all. She performed on tonight’s (May 17) elimination episode of ‘American Idol,’ delivering her new single ‘You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet’ from the just-released ‘Storm & Grace’ album. So what is Lisa Marie like live and onstage?

Dressed in a long black dress with her honey brown hair blown back in big waves, LMP, always the spitting image of her famous father, delivered a breathy version of the somewhat melancholy song. LMP emitted a quiet power while performing.

This might sound blasphemous, but she is akin to Lana Del Rey. She doesn’t move much, save for swaying while standing and singing, and she has a super sexy vocal delivery. Granted, LDR is a neophyte and LMP has been around for years, released a few albums and has some of the most notorious musical DNA running through her veins, but there are some similarities that we felt compelled to point out.

LMP closed the song with a “thank You” and a smile, and you really can’t help but love her. She was a nice surprise on the show, since she isn’t a pop star and has more of a Triple A-type vibe.

There are hundreds of Beastie Boys tributes on the Internet, including our favorite ‘Sabotage‘ clip by some adorable kids. But a cool video recently surfaced of a rare unaired performance from the trio.

Oh No They Didn’t posted a video of the Beastie Boys performing ‘The New Style’ on ‘Chappelle’s Show.’ Originally, the show’s co-creator Neal Brennan posted it on his YouTube but was taken down by Viacom due to copyright issues. According to Brennan, the performance was slated for the third season of ‘Chappelle’s Show’ but never aired after Dave Chappelle abruptly quit the show.

In the grainy video, the Beasties are performing ‘The New Style’ outside in the dead of winter. WTF? Dressed in heavy coats, the trio performed their sample-heavy track next to the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. Although it was cold outside, the Beasties were heating the mics up with their back-and-forth wordplays. Props to Mixmaster Mike for his superior turntable skills and switching up the beat near the end of the song.

Overall, the Beastie Boys showed how much they love hip-hop and the city of New Yawk. It’s a wonderful tribute to their late member Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch.

Pink graces the June 2012 cover of Cosmo, looking slim and trim in a red bandage dress. Less than a year after giving birth to daughter Willow Sage, new mom Pink has dropped the baby weight and looks banging. She was candid about how her life has changed since welcoming Willow into the world.

“I’m used to going into the studio and smoking and drinking until three in the morning,” the singer confessed to the mag. “But I can’t drink as much because I’m breastfeeding. See this glass of wine? Before, I’d have, like, four of them. Now, one is good. Oh, and I quit smoking… I’ve exorcised a lot of my demons, but I’m still working on myself. I think I’ll be a work in progress for the rest of my life.”

The singer also shared that Willow sleeps in bed with her mom and dad, so she and hubby Carey Hart have to “schedule” alone time! “We’ve never had a problem with affection. But with a baby? It’s kinda gross, but you have to schedule it,” she said.

The parents are thinking of rearranging Willow’s sleeping accomodations at some point. “We’re just starting to think about putting her somewhere else, at least for a little while,” the songstress said. “Either that, or we’ll have to resort to getting it on in the laundry room.”

Speaking of sexy, the singer was not shy about saying she did not feel beautiful with a bulging belly. She gained 55 pounds during the gestation period, joking “my baby may be part cheesecake.” She didn’t feel pretty, at all. “I thought I’d feel like a goddess. They sell you on that… like you’ll never feel more feminine. Really, I just felt like a mess,” Pink said.

Feeling like a mess at the time or not, she looks uh-mazing right now.

Let’s say you’re at your local lumber yard, buying wood for some sort of home improvement project. You’re feeling like quite a man, because you’re about to do some work with your hands. In walks a woman, completely nude. Bonus, right? Maybe not so much.

When that exact scenario played out in Curtis Lumber in Ballston, NY on Tuesday, thanks to 49-year old exhibitionist Barbara Lafleur, it was just a really awkward among the two-by-fours.

“No one wanted to say much to her,” Curtis Lumber manager Bob Eakin explained. “It’s not a situation you want to be involved in.”

So, having laid the seeds for many jokes involving the word “wood,” but perhaps not getting the desired reaction from Curtis Lumber’s employees and patrons, Lafleur moved on to a nearby ice cream shop. Again her nudity was not embraced, and she was quickly given the boot by the store’s manager.

That’s about when she was arrested and charged with misdemeanor public lewdness, a crime that could net her up to 90 days in jail. According to LaFleuer, she was just exercising her right to “self-expression.”

We’re going to have to take Ballston community and police force to task for their treatment of LaFleuer. Yes, 49-year old boobies aren’t our favorite kind, but with the harsh treatment of this Lady Godiva wannabe, they have diminished the chances we will ever randomly encounter good nudity during a trip to the lumber yard.

Which makes less likely we will ever build that deck we like to talk about.

Is Jimmy Kimmel the new king of late night? Judging by last Thursday’s ratings coup, Kimmel may soon be worthy of the crown.

‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘ bested ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno‘ by 4% in the 18-49 demo, according to Deadline. Not too shabby considering Kimmel’s show comes on at midnight, a half-hour into Leno’s ‘Tonight Show’ which airs after the eleven o’clock news.

Kimmel’s victorious night didn’t end with Leno, however. ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ also felt the heat of rising competition, as Kimmel trounced Letterman by as much as 60% with adults 18-34 on May 7th and 9th and on the 11th, with a repeat. Ouch.

Kimmel also scored notable wins over late, late night competitors, beating out ‘The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson’ by 48% in adults 18-49 and putting ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon‘ in second place with the demo.

The numbers mark Kimmel’s first in-season win over Leno and his 7th straight win over Fallon. If Kimmel can keep it up, celebrities may have to reconsider whose couch they’ll want to be sitting on to talk-up their next big flick.

Pop quiz: if one man orders a soy burger and another orders a steak, which guy do you think is more masculine?

If you said the steak-eater, you aren’t alone. A new study indicates people tend to think meat is far more macho than vegetarian choices.

Researchers conducted several experiments to study the metaphors people use about foods meat and vegetables, and found the participants not only used more masculine words when talking about meat, they perceived meat-eaters as more manly.

“To the strong, traditional, macho, bicep-flexing, All-American male, red meat is a strong, traditional, macho, bicep-flexing, all-American food,” the researchers wrote. “Soy is not. To eat it, they would have to give up a food they saw as strong and powerful like themselves for a food they saw as weak and wimpy.”

This means health experts who advocate eating less meat may have a tough sell with guys. The study authors say that addressing the metaphors that shape consumer attitudes would help, but something as simple as reshaping soy burgers to make them look more like traditional hamburgers or even putting grill marks on them may make reluctant men more likely to give them a try.

It looks like Ryan Seacrest is moving in with Ellen Degeneres… well, into her old house at least. TMZ reports that the ‘American Idol‘ host and radio personality bought Degeneres’ estate, where she resided with wife and actress Portia de Rossi, in Beverly Hills for a cool $39 million.

That’s definitely not chump change, even for a media mogul like Seacrest. According to Forbes, Seacrest made around $59 million last year — but the luxurious pad seems to be worth every penny. And in some ways, it was a steal, since Degeneres had listed the pad for $49 million.

The main house, which is roughly 9,200 square feet, sits on nearly three acres of sprawling property that boasts a koi fish pond, an outdoor swimming pool and three other (presumably guest) houses. The house itself is as gorgeous as the landscape, with an extremely large gym (the size of a “large health club,” according to TMZ), an outdoor patio, three bedrooms, and windows all around. It’s like a tranquil oasis in the middle of the bustling city of Los Angeles.

This posh estate is really making its rounds amongst the stars. Before Degeneres and de Rossi moved in, the house belonged to ‘Will and Grace’ producer Max Mutchnick. Degeneres and de Rossi bought the surrounding land, but ended up losing money on improving the estate’s beauty and vastness.

We wonder if Seacrest is making room for his sweetie Julianne Hough. The two have been hot and heavy since spring 2010, so we wouldn’t be surprised! Check out some photos of Seacrest’s new home below.

Mary Richardson Kennedy, the estranged wife of Robert Kennedy Jr., was found dead on Wednesday, and an autopsy has now revealed her cause of death: she died of asphyxiation due to hanging.

Police who went to Kennedy’s home in Bedford, NY on Wednesday afternoon to investigate a “possible unattended death” found the 52-year-old in a building on the grounds.

Mary was Robert Kennedy’s second wife. They married in 1994 and separated in 2010, and she’d struggled for years with alcohol and substance abuse problems. Toxicology tests are still pending and could take months to complete.

A statement released by Kerry Lawrence, her attorney, said, “We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her [four] children, who she loved without reservation.”

The death seems to add another chapter to the cursed Kennedy legacy. Robert Kennedy, Jr. is the nephew of President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963. Robert’s father, Robert F. Kennedy, Sr., was shot and killed in 1968.

Sunglasses don’t just make you look cool, they’re also good for your eyes. But a lot of parents don’t seem to know that rule also applies to their kids.

Research done by the Vision Council found that while three-quarters of adults regularly wear sunglasses, only about half make their kids wear them, too. And California ophthalmologist Paul Michelson says that should change.

“A substantial proportion of people still do not understand that UV exposure is harmful to the eyes as well as the skin,” he said. “Even [in] those who do understand, few understand it is the cumulative exposure that can be damaging.”

Among adults, the top three reasons given for not wearing sunglasses were that they forgot them at home, they break or lose them too often, and they don’t believe their eyes are at risk from sun exposure.

People with light-colored eyes are more susceptible to UV damage than people with brown eyes, but the risks for everyone include cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, and cancer of the eye, eyelid or surrounding skin.

At a school in China, hard work isn’t just rewarded with success — it’s rewarded with air conditioning, too.

Binhe Middle and High School in Shenzhen, China has 11 classes for 10th-graders, but only four of them — the honors classes — are air conditioned. Kids in the other classes have to sweat it out with only fans for comfort.

Students who do well on their high school entrance exams don’t just get a more comfortable classroom, they also get the most experienced and competent teachers. In exchange, those elite kids are expected to later enroll at one of the country’s universities.

A Binhe students said kids in the non-honors classes have offered to buy air conditioning units themselves and even pay for the electricity required to run them, but school authorities rebuffed their request, saying, “We may be put under investigation by education authorities if we allow such a practice.”

But the rationale behind the refusal seems to go deeper. One teacher said kids need to learn they can’t get whatever they want and that learning in a hot classroom will help them acquire the skills necessary to “overcome difficulties.”

Parents of some of those children are understandably upset, with one saying, “I think the school should treat all the students equally. Students in honors classes should not be given special treatment.”

Greg sat down to talk about Magnum PI, Heart of Darkness, wigs and his side job owning a pizza joint.

 

Wigmaker's Son

GuySpeed: How much of your inspiration has come from your family who owns a wig-making business?

Greg Barris: Well, my band is called ‘The Wigmaker’s Son.’

GuySpeed: Right, so how much comedic inspiration came from that line of work? We think it’s kind of a funny thing. You know someone makes wigs but you don’t always think about it like “that’s a family business.”

Greg Barris: My grandfather was a wig maker. My brother’s a wig maker. My dad’s a wig maker. The job itself doesn’t provide much inspiration but there were always a lot of eccentric people coming into the wig shop.

GuySpeed: Were they upset that you didn’t get into the family business?

Greg Barris: Nah, they were really supportive and have always been supportive of anything I’ve done.

GuySpeed: Is it something to fall back on? We all have a fall back plan

Greg Barris: I don’t think so. I don’t know what I would do. I don’t know how to make wigs. My father and grandfather both started when they were kids. It’s too late for me.

GuySpeed: Your bio says that you’re also the co-owner of a pizza place. Maybe that’s Plan B?

Greg Barris: I guess so.

GuySpeed: How did that happen?

Greg Barris: I sorta fell ass-backwards into the pizza world. My grandfather owned a restaurant — the only restaurant on a elevated train on Coney Island — like on the actual elevated part of the train. One day, I was doing a show and was walking back to my friend’s apartment with a case of beer. I was starving, and this pizza place was closing up. I knocked on the window, hoping to get some pizza to go with the beers. The owner and I hit it off. He is showing me around and we go down to the basement. It was a great place to put on a show. So, I started doing a show in the basement of this pizza place for like a year-and-a-half. That was about 8 years ago. Over the course of the last eight years I’ve just become intimately involved and then a part-time owner.  We actually just opened a second location.

GuySpeed: You recently anointed Tom Selleck a “baby-saving mustached saint.”  Is there any way to explain that in a couple words?

Greg Barris : I make these stickers with my friend who’s a band director, Dema Durchin. He’s a very talented artist and one of the stickers that he made a long time ago said, “Tom Selleck saved my baby,” and it had Tom Selleck holding a gun with a baby in his arms. It’s basically just us loving Tom Selleck.

GuySpeed: Explain a little about the Heart of Darkness show

Greg Barris: It’s a variety show that I’ve been doing for like seven or eight years now. It’s sort of a different format than in the past. There’s always a different live band on stage. It’s like three different bands that come together to make this six-piece band and each show is themed. There are always two comics and some musical guests and a guest speaker. We try to theme the show around the speaker and then everyone tries to do something that touches on that theme. I have to pick a band that can play with the comics, so to speak, or the musical guests. The speaker’s usually like a fringe scientist.

GuySpeed: Where did the idea for all this come from?

Greg Barris: Well, it sort of just built on itself over the last several years. I was working on a documentary, years ago, about consciousness and science. I was interviewing a lot of science people and they were so interesting I wanted to bring it to a live show. For example, I recently had a quantum physicist join us on stage. We do like a question and answer thing. The show is always evolving and changing into something else.

GuySpeed: Where do your comedic inspirations come from?

Greg Barris: All over the place really — I love live comedy. I also really like Gene Wilder and Bill Murray.  Also the show ‘Look Around You.’  Ever see that show?

GuySpeed: Describe it and maybe we’ve seen it

Greg Barris: It’s a British show by this guy Peter Serafinowicz, he’s a genius and he made this almost like a weird PBS science show, but it’s absolutely absurd. It’s just very, very absurd and dry. There’s not really another American show like it.

GuySpeed: So, because of your personal tastes, your comedy tends to lean toward funny but also kind of a learning experience?

Greg Barris: Yeah, I try to learn stuff myself and try to fit some sort of learning experience in my shows.

In 2011, there were more racial or ethnic minorities born in the United States than white babies. This marks the first time in history that minorities make up the majority of births in the US.

Of the 4.1 million babies born last year, 50.4% were minorities, while 49.6% were white. A total of 1.99 million were white, while another 1.05 million are classified as Hispanic. The remaining are black, mixed race, Asian, Native American or Pacific Islander.

According to the latest census data, there are now 114.1 million minorities in the US, which comprises 36.6% of the country’s total population.

This landmark in minority births is coming at time in which Hispanic and Asian immigration is leveling off — if not going into a decline. Yet because the Hispanic population, in particular, trends young they are still having babies at higher rate than the older white population.

Demographers estimate that the entire US population will become ‘majority minority’ sometime between 2040 and 2050.

There is some good news being reported about the state of young people in America.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, fewer American teens and young adults are smoking cigarettes than they were nearly a decade ago.

This new report consists of data collected each year between 2004 and 2010 as part of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Researchers interviewed nearly 158,000 people between the ages of 12 and 17 and roughly 159,000 men and women between the ages of 18 to 25.

• The number of children between the ages of 12 and 17 who smoked every day fell from 3.3% in 2004 to 1.9% in 2010.
• Young people ages 18 to 25 years old also reported decreased daily tobacco use – from 20.4% in 2004 to 15.8% in 2010.
• The ranks of young smokers between the ages of 12 and 17 who smoke five or fewer cigarettes a day grew from nearly 37% in 2004 to almost 43% in 2010.
• The largest group of daily smokers between the ages of 18 to 25 who smoked between six and 15 cigarettes a day slightly increased from about 41% in 2004 to roughly 44% in 2010.
• There was nearly a 3% decrease in young adults who smoked 26 or more cigarettes a day.

According to researchers, the downward trend in tobacco use could be the result of anti-smoking laws, tax increases, and tougher laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco to minors.

Researchers also add that while these findings may be encouraging, many kids are still picking up this dangerous habit.

At the end of April, Honolulu County passed a ban that made Hawaii the first state in the nation to ban plastic bags at store checkouts statewide. Of the four counties in the state, three had previously passed bans and the Honolulu County decision officially made the ban statewide.

The Hawaii chapter of the Sierra Club has spent two years campaigning for a plastic bag ban. Robert Harris, director of the chapter said, “Passing the bans did take an effort — change always does — but people seemed to understand the need for such an effort.”

He believes that in the end it was easy to go statewide because Hawaii is a marine state. “Perhaps we are exposed more directly to the impacts of plastic pollution and the damage it does to our environment,” he said.

Harris also explained that the group had lobbied for state legislation, but that effort failed. The group used the exposure from it to petition the four counties to make their own bans which would then have an effect statewide.

The Honolulu County Council passed the final ban late last month, but mayor and county executive Peter Carlisle held back his support, feeling that he needed more input from the public because of enforcement and cost concerns. Last Thursday, Mayor Carlisle showed his full support by signing the ban and helping Hawaii earn its first-in-the-nation status.

Retailers have three years to comply with the county law that bans non-biodegradable plastic bags at checkout, as well as paper bags that are not at least 40 percent recycled. If you’re a Verizon Wireless customer who was grandfathered in with an unlimited data plan after the company eliminated the option for new customers, enjoy it while it lasts — the company will be moving you to a tiered plan soon.

Speaking at the JP Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom conference on Wednesday, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo said customers with unlimited 3G data access will be required to switch to a data-share plan after transitioning to the company’s 4G LTE service.

“LTE is our anchor point for data share. So, as you come through an upgrade cycle and you upgrade in the future, you will have to go on to the data share plan,” Shammo said. “Everyone will be on [it]. A lot of our 3G base is on unlimited… [and] when they migrate off 3G they will have to go to data share.”

So when will that happen and how much will it cost? The data share plan is scheduled to launch in mid-summer, but pricing details have yet to be announced.

J. Lo is catching rays in a black, criss-crossed suit, one we would not recommend for tanning. Imagine the tan lines! Same can be said for the red one-piece.

The maroon suit is dangerously low cut and oh-so-sexy. She could wear it while making sandcastles with Max and Emme without sacrificing her innate hotness or looking inappropriate. The one-strap white suit is the most mom-friendly and fashion-forward, which might seem mutually exclusive, but J. Lo makes it work.

The gold bikini makes us jealous. Really. J Lo, can we have your bod?

Lopez’s most famous asset, her round bootay, is NOT prominently featured in this spread. But she more than makes up for it with the abs.

If you had the chance to borrow the ear of a real sitting U.S. president and could only ask him one question that every American was dying to know the truth about, what would it be? Will Smith’s oldest son Jaden got that chance, and completely failed. 

His topic of choice, however, made his famous father blush. Jaden wanted to know if the government was covering up the existence of aliens.

Smith said on BBC Radio while conveniently doing some early press rounds for his new film ‘Men in Black 3′ that the entire Smith clan got a rare opportunity to tour the White House with Pres. Barack Obama. Smith knew his son wanted to ask Obama about aliens but forbade him from embarrassing him in the nation’s most famous mansion.

When the group got to the situation room, Jaden just couldn’t stop himself from popping the question. Smith said he knew it was coming and was powerless to stop it.

Apparently, Jaden never got to actually ask the question because even the president could tell it was coming. Smith said just as Jaden was about to ask, Obama stopped him, looked at him and uttered, “The aliens, right?”

Of course, the president could “neither confirm nor deny the existence of extra-terrestrials,” but he did say that no meeting on the subject had ever taken place in the situation room since he took office.

Smith didn’t say what Jaden’s punishment was for defying his father’s wishes. We’d say a ‘Karate Kid’ sequel would be punishment enough.
