A federal grand jury has indicted more than 20 individuals on charges of smuggling drugs into the Louisiana state penitentiary at Angola. KATC reports, those indicted include 5 former guards at the prison. Federal and state authorities conducted a joint investigation, resulting in arrests of prisoners, staff, and individuals in California who were shipping marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine to the facility. Some of those indicted are currently serving life sentences.
