I'm a creature of habit. There are some foods I love in Shreveport and I go back time after time to get to my favorites. These are those out-of-the-way places that draw me in on a regular basis.

Here are five of my favorites:

1. Herby K's

Pierre Avenue Shreveport

This legendary Shreveport Restaurant is famous for the Shrimp Buster which is a scrumptious fried shrimp dish, but it's so much more. It's a large shrimp that is flattened and fried in a secret home-style batter. This delectable shrimp is then piled on top of toasted french bread and served with the Herby K's Signature sauce.

You have to know where you're going to get to Herby K's, but it's well worth the trip.

 2. The Cub

Girard Street Shreveport (near the intersection of Youree and Kings)

You really have to get a steak if you go to the Cub. These are among the best in the city. The ribeye is juicy and tender and almost melts in your mouth. You will find prices a little higher at the Cub, but it's well worth it.

3. Papa and Company in Shreveport

East Washington in Shreveport

If I'm in the mood for a great hamburger, this is where I would go. But remember these burgers are ginormous and you will probably take half of it home. I love the burger with mushrooms and mozzarella cheese....that's my favorite.

4. Fertitta's Delicatessen

Fairfield Shreveport

Fertitta's Delicatessen is one of those legendary spots in Shreveport. It is really off the beaten path just south of downtown. You can always find some local movers and shakers there during the lunch hour. Of course, if you go, you have to try the Muffaletta because Fertitta's is known as "the home of the muffy".

5. Monjunis

Louisiana Avenue in Shreveport

I love the lasagna at Monjunis, but you must try the salad with the olive mix. It is absolutely delicious. You will often run into movers and shakers at the Louisiana Avenue location since it is so close to downtown and other government buildings.
