The Louisiana Department of Health, and Governor John Bel Edwards, have announced Louisiana's first presumptive case of Covid-19. The Covid-19 virus is commonly referred to as Coronavirus.

The Department of Health says the case involves a Jefferson Parish resident, who is being treated in Orleans Parish.

Today, Governor Edwards spoke about the Coronavirus case, saying:

"While today is the first time that we can confirm that we have a presumptive positive Coronavirus case, Louisiana has been preparing for this moment for many weeks. The CDC still believes the risk to the general public is low, but we will work quickly and decisively to assess the risk to those around this patient."

Even though authorities are treating this case with extreme caution, they do recognize this is a presumptive case. The test has been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for final testing.

The Governor recently put together a Covid-19 Task Force, that includes medial professionals, National Guard members, Department of Justice representatives, as well as other agencies.
