The Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) will meet next Tuesday, (July 14) at 1:30 p.m. to outline COVID-19 minimum standards. The upcoming meeting will cover the 2020 regulations for area schools to follow pertaining to the reopening in the fall. Watch the meeting stream live HERE

Governor John Bel Edwards signed special legislation bills this year including, Act 9-HB59. The bill requires BESE to adhere to CDC emergency policies and guidelines as reopening plans move forward for the 2020-2021 school year. The new law provides limited liability for public/private/postsecondary schools, when a state of emergency or public health crisis has been declared.

The COVID-19 virus possess an increased high risk of illness to some children, adults, and people with developmental disabilities. The CDC guidance to reduce risk for students at higher risk is virtual learning opportunities. At this time it's not clear if any further medical exceptions will be considered by BESE.
