Update: The body found in the Red River has been identified. This is a release from the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office:

The name of a person whose body was found in the Red River near Lock & Dam No. 5 in south Caddo Parish earlier this week has been released by the Caddo Parish Coroner's office.

 The body of Tommie Shane Weeks, 41, of Benton, was found in the Red River at Bishop Point, near Lock & Dam No. 5, just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

 He was positively identified through fingerprint and dental records comparison.

 An autopsy was ordered.

 Further information should be obtained from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's office, which continues to investigate the death.


Original Story: The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a body this afternoon in the Red River. The body was found near lock & dam #5 on the Red, located on Highway 1 in Shreveport.

According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, the body has been recovered by the Sheriff's Marine Patrol unit and turned over to the Caddo Corner's Office. The recovery effort was assisted by the Bossier Sheriff's Marine Unit.

At this time, there's no word on if Deputies have identified the remains or what the circumstances of death are. This is an on-going investigation.
