Caddo Parents to Protest Masks in Schools

Governor John Bel Edwards did away with the masks mandate last month due to low COVID cases in Louisiana. But, Caddo Parish School Board made the decision to leave the mandate active for Caddo Public Schools.

This decision has angered many guardians of the students in Caddo Parish. A protest is planned for today (Tuesday, 11-2-21) at 4:00pm on Midway Avenue. A flyer has made it's way around social media that states: "CALLING ALL PARENTS" and continues with "The Governor's mask mandate has been lifted. The School Board decides if our children stay masked."

Governor Edwards was quoted on his decision, stating:

"I will lift Louisiana’s statewide mask mandate in all settings except for K-12 schools, which may opt out as long as they continue implementing existing CDC quarantine guidance"

This re-issued mask mandate came back on August 4th, and remained in place until October 26th. When the mandate was re-issued, the state had a 7-day rolling average of over 3,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 daily. Since then, Louisiana's 7-day rolling average has dropped down to around 323 cases.

Caddo Parish School Board decided after the Governor's decision to keep the school's mandates in place for the safety of the children of Caddo Parish.
