CHRISTUS Highland medical center now confirms they are treating a man after he tested positive for a presumptive case of Covid 19.

The hospital issued this statement:

Out of respect for our patient and in following HIPAA guidelines, we are limited in what we can share. We can say that we followed the CDC’s guidelines at all times, as well as the guidance we received from the Caddo Parish Health Department," the statement reads. "We are firmly convinced that it was the diligence of our clinical caregivers and the excellent care they provided that helped identify this patient. Importantly, all CHRISTUS Associates utilized the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and isolated this patient to protect our patients, Associates and community. Per CDC guidelines, the patient has been treated and released to home isolation.

More cases have popped up in Louisiana. One of the latest cases is a man in his 60's. He reportedly went to the hospital and a presumptive positive test came back on him. That test has now been sent to the CDC.

Governor John Bel Edwards says there are presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in 6 parishes in Louisiana.

State health officials now say the total is up to 14.  They are reported in the following parishes:

  • Caddo
  • Iberia
  • Jefferson
  • Lafourche
  • Orleans
  • St. Tammany

These presumptive cases now must be confirmed by the CDC.remain classified as such until confirmed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. The CDC can take several days to return test results to the state.

Testing begins in city hospitals.

Patients suspected of infection are assessed by hospital staff. The staff then requests a state courier come pick up a sample that's sent to a state lab in Baton Rouge for testing.
