Simply wearing a mask while out in public makes a huge difference.

If you've spent a lot of time on social media in the last month (and who hasn't?) you've seen that there are a lot of people who still think the coronavirus is not 'that big of a deal.' These folks think it's no more dangerous than the flu and think people are making a mountain out of a molehill. I've seen more than a few people who feel this way saying that wearing a mask is too much and that they will never wear one.

What's ironic is that many of these people are also complaining that it's taking too long to re - open businesses. Wearing a mask in public and at work is one of the keys to putting an end to the pandemic sooner than later according to the CDC:

We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

This infographic explains how effective wearing a mask can be.
