Let's face it... Sometimes in the national scope, Shreveport gets a bad wrap. However, I know we do a lot of great things here so I made a list.

I noticed recently, after Bossier City was named one of the worst small cities to live in in America by WalletHub, that at least a handful of users online weren't too happy with the content. They weren't necessarily unhappy with the findings of WalletHub's report, but they were unhappy with local media sharing the national story.

So, without backing of a national story and/or surveying, I decided to go my own way and write a list featuring everything I believe we do right here in Shreveport-Bossier. No, I won't be using studies and factual data revolving around real estate, crime rates, education options, ect... Instead, I'm just going to use the 28 years of experience I have living in Shreveport-Bossier.

Here are the top six things I believe we do right.

Party Like the Animals We Are

If there's one thing we do better than anyone else, it's have a good time. We let the good times roll in Shreveport-Bossier, and if a national survey rana  study to find the towns with the biggest party animals, we would be high on that list.

    Football is King

That's right, Shreveport-Bossier knows a thing or two about football. Not only are our high school football teams kicking ass and taking names, but also we have a plethora of athletes from our area making the biggest plays on your TV every Saturday and Sunday.

    We're Nice People

Despite what your extremist Facebook friends and their aggressive keyboards make it seem, from my experience in Shreveport-Bossier, our community is full of the nicest people. Sure, everyone is entitled to a bad day or two, but for the most part, when I think of our people, I always get a feeling of overall niceness.

    Food is Queen

If football is King in the SBC, without a doubt, food is queen. We can eat like nobodies business, and it's surprisingly that not every single Shreveport-Bossier resident is obese. We probably should be, because our food is too damn good to accurately explain.

Mardi Gras Ain't Just for New Orleans

In our state, when it comes to Mardi Gras, there are two places that absolutely go all out and get it right. Those places are of course, New Orleans and Shreveport-Bossier. Mardi Gras up here is not just a seasonal thing, we have Mardi Gras events throughout the year, as well as several absolutely unique and special parades.

    Helping Eachother

I promise you this, if a national survey truly looked for and found the top cities when it comes to helpfulness within the community, Shreveport-Bossier would be on that list. Our community rallies around those who need it, when they need it most. We ask for nothing in return. We are a very giving and helping community, and we should be proud of that.
