The miniseries 'The Bible' captured 13.1 million viewers in its debut on Sunday night on The History Channel.

It was also the #1 show of the night across the board, easily beating the broadcast networks and has set the standard as the cable entertainment telecast of the year to date. The total viewership for the opening episode increases to nearly 15 million when repeated airings are factored in.

According to producers 'The Bible' reveals new insights into the iconic characters and will feature some of the best known stories from Noah’s Ark and the Exodus to Daniel in the Lion’s Den to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

The miniseries, which is produced by former 'Touched By An Angel' star Roma Downey, will air four more installments every Sunday, concluding on Easter Sunday, March 31.
